CAST IRON MILLS COMMERCIAL POKER MACHINE. A most attractive poker machine that during the time period of usage in the early 20th century were prevalent in bars, saloons, general stores, etc. Sitting upon the counter, the player would insert his coin and depress the plunger. As the reels spun around and finally coming to rest, would show his poker hand. This hand was also visible to the storekeeper through means of a marquee mirror. A great success for the owner financially, generating much income and trade was usually extended in the form of cigars or drinks. A fanciful cast iron cabinet, attractively nickel plated, and with an open exposed mechanism, so the player could not think there was manipulation or cheating occurring. Iron casting appear to be original, however, the large rear door (with original Mills lock and key) at some point in time has had a 3″ x 5″ section cut out for shop owner observation (?). A small chip out of left rear base of lower casting. Has new award cards but original poker cards on reels. SIZE: 12″ w x 9″ d x 18″ h. CONDITION: Overall very fine plus. 1-11092 (5,000-6,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2011 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
