GROETCHEN “POISON THIS RAT” ARCADE MACHINE. A highly sought after arcade device, circa 1940s, featuring Hitler on the front facade. Patriotism at its height during WWII, a unique individual/company produced and distributed not only this machine, but a Bomb the Jap with a likeness of Hirohito instead. Placed in various locations, these machines would lure in those Americans and their intense dislike for the Axis powers. The concept of this machine is a penny is deposited and five “poison” pills to be dispensed to the Fuhrer in hopes of killing him off. A tricky little device based on slopes and runways, hoping to get the pill (small red ball) into Hitler’s mouth. Obviously children as well as adults could compete against another to see who could poison the rat most effectively. The graphics of this machine are incredible. Not only does this machine appeal to collectors of coin-op but other collectors in various categories. The machine is overall in very fine working condition. Truly a piece of Americana and part of our history, and a difficult machine to find. SIZE: 16-1/2″ w x 11″ d x 24″ h. CONDITION: Machine lacking original wood back door and exterior finish to cabinet appears to have been enhanced or replicated at some point in the past. 1-10829 (4,500-6,000)
