RARE FIRE HOUSE AUTOMATIC ALARM INDICATOR GONG BY THE GAMEWELL FIRE ALARM TELEGRAPH COMPANY, NY This master unit was positioned in the firehouse and received a telegraph signal from various call boxes that were positioned around a city. Boston was the sight of the first installation of this type of system. The Gamewell Co. started in New York and moved to Newton, Mass and recently being acquired by Honeywell. This 19th Century gong is housed in a fine late Victorian walnut case. Three windows, one of which has a three roll number indicator. The middle and bottom windows showing the brass works. All windows have beveled glass. Patent information is seen through top window on brass plate. Case has nice carved crest and carved half columns. Large brass key is present. Gong is 16” dia.
