EXTREMELY RARE PATENT MODEL: AMORY DAVIDSON LITTLETON MASSACHUSETTS WASHING MACHINE JUNE 11TH 1839. This is a truly special patent model and was Mr. Lawson’s very favorite. One of the prime reasons this was his favorite is that this is reportedly the only early wooden patent model from the U.S. Patent Office that survived the devastating fire of the 1970’s. Apparently, in the 1870’s a terrible fire took place in the warehouse that stored most of the very early patent models and essentially, everything was destroyed. In addition to its unique survival is its spectacular presence. This outstanding wood model is made entirely of bold tiger maple. Has period silver inscribed label mounted on the machine itself with details and dates. Also attached to the underside is an original US Patent office paper label. This finely crafted apparatus has a washing bin on four legs with double stepped washing paddles inside which rock back and forth when the handle is worked. SIZE: 15″ h x 9-1/2″ w x 4-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Very good. 1-28899 (2,000-3,000)
