ARTHUR JOHANN A SEVERIN NIKUTOWSKI (German, 1830 – 1888) THE SUPPLY TRAIN. Interesting oil on canvas scene shows a four-horse drawn supply wagon being driven by a soldier at a fast gallop. The wagon includes livestock, barrels, and hay. On either side are two soldiers on horseback with a soldier in the background, also on horseback. Another soldier is leaving a house with the village beyond. On the right, crossing a fence is another group of soldiers which appear to be the enemy. A nice subject matter with lots of action. Signed lower left and dated “1867”. Housed in an antique, possibly original, gesso decorated gold frame with modern artist plaque. SIZE: 16-1/4″ x 23-3/4″. CONDITION: Very good, relined with some inpainting. 9-21569 (3,000-5,000)
