NEW ENGLAND WILLIAM & MARY CARVED BIRCH ARMCHAIR IN THE MANNER OF JOHN GAINES. The shaped molded crest rail with foliate carving continuing to molded stiles centering a caned panel. The back joined to scrolling arms on outcurved supports above a trapezoidal caned seat raised on block and baluster turned legs joined by baluster and reel stretchers raised on frontal Spanish feet. SIZE: 45-1/2″ back h x 17″ seat h. CONDITION: The chair frame with multiple old structural repairs at crestrail and stile and at rear legs to seat frame. In addition, the chair frame has been cleaned and refinished within the last 50 years. Caning intact but with later seat with mortise and tenon construction throughout. 9-97975 (1,000-1,500)
