MAURICE ABRAHAM WAAS (American, 1843-1927) STILL LIFE WITH WINE, PIPE AND BOOKS. Oil on canvas tabletop scene shows a bottle of Chianti, pipe, glass of wine and books on a green tablecloth. Signed lower right “M.A. WAAS, 1881”. Also on back of canvas “Painted by M.A. Wass Phila. PA. 1881″. Housed in what may be its original fancy gesso decorated gilt frame. Waas was a Philadelphia dentist, an amateur painter and according to his daughter, was a friend of Harnett’s. His work certainly is inspired by Harnett’s example. SIZE: 10″ x 12”.
