MAHOGANY BLOCKFRONT CHIPPENDALE DESK. The desk having four graduated drawers with nicely blocked fronts which are fitted with replaced brass decorative hardware. Dovetailed drawers with pine secondary wood. The case having a carved central drop and bracket base. The slant lid opens to reveal and interior with six small drawers and eight cubbyholes. It has a central fan carved door with drawer and secret molding drawer behind and two document drawers with nicely carved fronts. PROVENANCE: From a fine Bangor, Maine estate. A note dated 1964 indicates that the blockfront desk was owned by Mr. Edward Moor of Bangor, Maine, who owned a hay and grain business there. Mr. Moor had a vast collection of antiques, including three hundred clocks. The house was kept intact until 1964. F.O.Bailey Co. of Portland, Maine sold the contents with the exception of this block front desk and the highboy being offered in this in this auction. SIZE: 43” h x 39-1/2”w x 20”d.
