SET OF FOUR RIBBON-BACK CHIPPENDALE CHAIRS. Set consists of two armchairs and two side chairs. Each chair with four pierced horizontal slats, square molded front legs, dovetailed H-stretcher and slightly curving back legs. Serpentine front seat rail. The armchairs have scroll type arms with curving arm supports having a very light beaded edge. Over-upholstered black leather seats, which is later upholstery. Chairs appear to be mahogany. 18th Century. Similar to chairs attributed to Connecticut. PROVENANCE: From a fine Brunswick, Maine Estate. SIZE: 36-3/4” h x 18” seat h x 21-1/2” across seat rail. CONDITION: One chair has horizontal slat, which has been broken. There is an extra broken slat, which may mean that one has been replaced. The chair with the broken slat is missing its back molded top edge that covers the back upholstery. Old restoration to stretcher on one chair. 9-27480 (2,000-3,000)
