LARGE PAINTED AND CARVED AFRICAN TRIBAL MASK. Depicting the “Opanga” spirit. Tall mask in three tiers. Bottom tier having carved head surrounded by small wood carved dish ovals. Second tier with three carved figures holding central carved figure between slats in center. Top tier has saw tooth like bars holding another figure. Hoop type top with dangling pendants. Polychrome decorated in yellow, green, red and blue. Fabric cloth base hanging. 1920’s. SIZE: 44” h. CONDITION: One second tier figure missing, minor defects. Very good. 9-96121 (12,500-17,000)
