WINCHESTER MODEL 66 SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 44 CF (44-40). Special order half-nickel carbine with 20” round bbl, full magazine, pedestal front sight and fixed rear sight. The receiver is nickel plated with a staple and ring in the left side. The stock and forearm are replacements. The bolt has been converted to center fire and has a homemade extractor. SN 79738. CONDITION: Good plus, bbl and magazine tube retain an even dark brown patina overall. There are hammer marks around the rear sight. The receiver retains about 80% strong nickel with some pry marks around the sideplates. There are repairs at the rear of the ejection port and back of the carrier slot. The loading gate appears to be a period replacement, possibly blacksmith made. The buttstock appears to be from a more recent Winchester carbine and the forearm is a replacement, possibly gunsmith made. The buttplate is brass with a trap and the hammer has filed crosshatching. Badly worn dark bore. 4-49208 JR74 (2,500-4,000)
