NEW ENGLAND FEDERAL CHERRY & MAHOGANY TALL CASE CLOCK. First quarter of the 19th Century. The molded swans neck pediment flanked by urn-form finials above the bonnet with astragal arched door flanked by free standing columns. The painted dial with Roman Numeral and Arabic chapter rings and decorated with painted spandrels depicting the four seasons. The upper arch painted with a scene of a meeting of merchants. The throat with canted corners and rectangular figural mahogany door joined to the concave molded box base raised on turned ball feet. SIZE: 93-1/2″ h x 14″ throat w x 11-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: Barbara J. Thornsjo Estate, Albion, Maine CONDITION: The eight-day brass works intact, the back of the dial with a retailers label of William Farver, Ashland, Ohio. The painted dial with extensive paint loss as noted in photographs. Case retains early, if not original, finish. Backboards original, good overall. One finial absent.
