AMERICAN FULL BODY LEAPING STAG WEATHERVANE. Late 19th, early 20th century. Attributed to the Thomas W. Jones Company, New York City. A similar example in Illustrated Catalogue and Price List of Copper Weather Vanes, Tower Ornaments, Finials, Church Crosses and Emblematic Signs Manufactured by Thomas W. Jones. This full bodied copper example with zinc ears and antlers in a verdigris patina rendered in full stride. Sold with a later wood stand. SIZE: Vane: 16″ h x 30″ l. Overall: 18-3/4″ h. PROVENANCE: Family in Peru, IN since 1980. Previous to that, a home in Mexico, IN. CONDITION: Retains old original surfaces, a repaired bullet hole proper right side behind ribs. A second bullet hole in mounting tube. Seam on rear of proper left rear leg with old repairs. Minor dent on proper left rear flank. Shallow dents along backbone.
