JOHN FREDERICK LOOS (Belgian, 1861-1895) THE AMERICAN SHIP “SERVIA” OFF THE COAST OF BELGIUM. Outstanding oil on canvas nautical scene shows the black-hulled ship sailing right to left with sails up flying the American flag and having eleven crew members on deck. The name emblazoned on the bow and stern. Beautifully rendered blue ocean with a smaller vessel off the bow and closer to the land mass beyond. White cloud and blue sky. Signed bottom right “John Loos Antwerp 1888″. Housed in a period gilt gesso decorated frame with gilt liner. Back having an Oliphant & Co. New York label. SIZE: 27″ x 39-1/2”.
