Additional Information: Consignor has contacted us and indicated that at one time he took this painting to Sotheby’s Art Dept in New York City for examination. He states that Sotheby’s opinion was that the painting was likely by Philipp Peter Roos. We have no documentation regarding this opinion. We are attributing this to Philipp Peter Roos.

UNSIGNED (European 18th Century or Earlier) SHEPHERD, HIS FLOCK AND SHEEP DOG. Large oil on canvas scene shows a man seated amongst his livestock with his sheep dog. A villa is seen behind him under dark blue sky with clouds. On reverse in modern script “GAERANO ROSA _ _ _ _ _ _ (?)”. Housed in a large wide gilt wood frame. SIZE: 52-1/2″ x 75″. PROVENANCE: From the “Harp House” of Camden, Maine. CONDITION: Relined, it appears that this canvas was either unfinished or was 1/3 through the restoration and inpainting process. The left 2/3 clearly needs restoring. 9-26960 (2,000-4,000)
