THOMAS HEWES HINCKLEY (American, 1813-1896) AFTER THE HUNT. Outstanding large oil on canvas landscape with two brown and white hunting dogs resting beside recently shot game birds. A rifle rests on a small tree limb beside a game bag. One dog is laying down, the other looks left at possibly the hunter who approaches. The landscape shows a shoreline with grasses and rock cliffs capped with trees. Signed lower left “T H Hinckley 1849″. Housed in a gold gesso decorated frame with liner. NOTE: An outstanding example of this artist’s work. The details show a masterful hand particularly in the handling of the dogs. SIZE: 25-1/4″ x 30-1/4”. PROVENANCE: Prominent New Jersey home. CONDITION: Relined on new stretcher with turnbuckle devices, some inpainting. Very good. 9-98280 (10,000-20,000)
