ROBERT HAMBLETON (American, Mid 20th Century) “PERSEVERANCE”. Oil on canvas Maine scene shows a standing dory man in his dory rowing against choppy waves. Signed lower right “R Hambleton”. Two cutout newspaper articles on reverse indicate that the painting was commissioned by Eric J. Wien, General Agent of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. and was hung in the agents office at 142 High St. Portland, Maine. The painting was commissioned in 1963. The painting was to express the perseverance typical of man in his efforts to overcome obstacles and to go on life’s way in spite of adverse condition. SIZE: 24-1/4″ x 36″.
