PAINT DECORATED TURNED WOOD MORTAR AND PESTLE. Early 19th century, New England. The barrel formed maple mortar with turned rim incised center band on a reel-turned stepped base decorated in original salmon paint with chrome yellow trim. The pestle with stepped shoulder, shaped handle and mushroom cap; the cap with conforming yellow and salmon paint. SIZE: 6-1/2″ T. CONDITION: Overall very good, with somewhat later painted surfaces. Tiny chip losses at base and small knot loss at rim. 9-91516 (800-1,200)
