OUTSTANDING PAIR OF OVER-THE-MANTLE NAUTICAL PAINTINGS. Early 19th Century, probably New England, possibly Connecticut. Each large raised white pine panel depicting three-mast ships, one with American flag and lighthouse, the other with two three-mast ships and a two-mast ship. Unsigned & unframed. NOTE: It is our speculation that these could have been used in a number of locations architecturally in a home, possibly on a landing, a stairway or another area where the back may have been exposed as the surface shows paint on the reverse. SIZE: 25″ x 31″. CONDITION: Original surfaces with craquelure, soiling and chips 9-91778 (15,000-25,000)
