Summer in Maine

by Mark Ford, CEO

When you think of summer in Maine, the advertising folks have you thinking of lazy summer days with sailboats bobbing in the harbor, bathers laying on a sandy beach or scenic hikes along a majestic rocky ridge. Not here at Julia’s.

We are “right out straight!” In June, we had our Rare Lamps, Glass & Fine Jewelry auction. Our Department Head, Mike Fredericks, did a wonderful job pulling together a fabulous auction. We had a two day event featuring 1100 different lots. We have always been known for our rare Lamps and Glass. However, over the past couple of years we have added Fine Jewelry to this division. As a result, we had almost 200 lots of Fine Jewelry. After the dust settled with the post auction sales, we had our second largest grossing Rare Lamps, Glass & Fine Jewelry Auction ever at over $2,800,000.

While that auction was winding down, Department Head Bill Gage and his team were closing down the consignment process and beginning the cataloging for our August 24, 25 and 26 Fine Art, Asian & Antiques auction. The auction will feature almost 1900 lots with a low estimate of almost $5,600,000. Not to steal their thunder, but there will be an incredible offering of Fine Art at this auction, including a Fitz Henry Lane entitled “New Bedford Harbor.” The catalog should be available online in a week or two. It is truly spectacular.

Finally, the Rare & Collectible Firearms Department has been working diligently to gather consignments for their October Auction. Consignments will be closing in early August, so if you are interested, contact us now. We project that this will be our largest auction of Rare & Collectible Firearms ever. Currently, we have almost 2,000 items in house with a fabulous offering of Winchesters and Colts, German Schuetzen rifles, 1911s and much, much more.

As always, you can visit our Current Highlights for each division to see a sampling of what will be coming up in our auction.

A few months ago I wrote about our Research Library. Many of you have tried it out since then; our views are up almost 50% year over year. If you want to find out “What’s it Worth,” there are over 250,000 items sold by Julia’s in the database. Give it a try at https://www.jamesdjulia.com/master-catalog-search/
