DON MOY CHU KINGMAN (American, 1911-2000) “17 MILE DRIVE, CALIFORNIA, 1954”. Outstanding large watercolor showing a modernistic view of a marshy area with trees, birds and grasses against a full moon/sun on horizon. Signed lower right “Don Kingman”. Housed in its original weathered wood frame with white liner and glass. “National Academy of Design 129th Annual Exhibition, 1954” label affixed to reverse. Also “Midtown Galleries” label with artist and title. Also inscribed “Property of Herbert & Elizabeth Daugherty”. Also attached to back is a note from Mrs. Daugherty to consignor regarding the gift of the painting. REFERENCE: Illustrated on pages 96 and 97 of the Watercolors of Don Kingman, Introduction by William Saroyan indicating that it is from the collection of Mr. & Mrs. H. L. Daugherty.
