*ROY VAIL CUSTOM ENGRAVED MAUSER RIFLE. Cal. 257 Roberts. Fine Mauser action with 24” tapered round bbl in a beautifully center crotch cut walnut stock that has horn foreend tip and grip cap. Stock is has 14-1/4” over a checkered butt. Buttstock has stylized European cheek piece, with fine raised carved foliate and floral patterns on the left side and foliate patterns on the right side. Stock has very nicely checkered forearm and pistol grip in Fleur-de-Lis patterns. The receiver and trigger guard and scope base are very nicely engraved in deep foliate arabesque patterns which extend about 6” up the bbl and 2” on the muzzle. The floor plate is engraved in very fine detail with four cape buffalo in a Savannah scene. The trigger guard has the initials “RV” in gold and the name “ROY VAIL” in small letters in silver over the chamber. The bolt body and extractor are engraved in very fine spider web patterns. The bolt cut off, bolt shroud and floor plate are gold plated. The receiver is mounted with an old Weaver K-4 scope with post. The grip cap is carved horn in the pattern of a snarling grizzly bear.
