*WINCHESTER PER-WAR SUPER GRADE MODEL 70 RIFLE. Cal. 270. Fine deluxe rifle with 24” tapered round bbl, ramp front sight with replacement hood, slot blank in rear dovetail with a Lyman 48WJS receiver sight base that has a slot blank installed. Left side of receiver is mounted with a Griffin & Howe double lever mount containing a Leupold Vari-X II 2-7X scope. Mounted in a 1-pc stock with black foreend tip, capped pistol grip with cheekpiece and a Niedner style full checkered buttplate with trap which contains the Lyman receiver sight blade and also has holes for two cartridges. Stock has deluxe swivels containing what appears to be an original Winchester sling. Floorplate is marked “SUPER GRADE”. Accompanied by a letter dated 8/17/39 from Cook, Newton & Smith New Have, CT regarding targeting this rifle. SN 21885. CONDITION: Very fine. Metal retains about 95% strong bright original blue with light muzzle wear, a bright spot on top of the bbl and minor fine edge wear elsewhere. Rear bridge is not tapped. Stock is sound and retains most of a fine custom finish. Excellent optics, bright shiny bore. 4-48874 JR655 (1,250-1,750)
