*WINCHESTER MODEL 70 EXPERIMENTAL BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 22 Special. Standard grade featherweight rifle with 22” tapered bbl, ramp front sight with hood, folding middle sight and Refield receiver sight, mounted in a checkered 1-pc stock with high comb and checkered aluminum buttplate with sling swivels. This rifle is pictured on page 299 of “THE RIFLEMAN’S RIFLE” by Roger C. Rule. This rifle is identified as an “R & D Rifle used in Project Salvo”. Also accompanied by a Winchester letter dated March 25, 1979 over the signature of Mr. Alan R. Peck’s signature, manager of Arms Product Planning, giving general information about these test rifles. One paragraph states that “the work was done as part of the U.S. Government’s Project Salvo” and that they were classified as the homologous series. SN 277805. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl and receiver retain most all their original factory finish. Trigger guard and floorplate show light wear. Stock is sound and retains about 95% original finish with some light scuffing on the buttstock. Strong bright bore with scuffing in one groove. Matching numbered bolt. 4-48491 JR634 (5,000-10,000)
