JUSTICE MODEL 1861 RIFLED MUSKET. Cal. 72. NSN. 38-1/8” rnd bbl. Marked “P. S. JUSTICE / PHILADA” on bbl and lockplate. Ramrod is missing. There are no proof marks or acceptance marks although 2,174 of these were delivered to the U.S. government, Justice used parts leftover from earlier contracts for the fastest delivery of any contractor during the Civil War. Brass patchbox appears to be of the Sharps type, but it is slightly different. Dark brass trigger guard is unlike any other Civil War musket. CONDITION: Very fine. Much orig brown mixed with light surface rust and pitting on bbl. Orig blue on lockplate and hammer. Brass parts have a dark patina, except for lid on patchbox, which appears to be gilded.
