BRASS BOUND CHRONOMETER BY WIDENHAM. Fine chronometer is housed in a finely grained rosewood case with brass corners, side bale lifts, and fancy escutcheon plate. Dial is silvered with gold colored hands with bevel glass and brass gimbal. Dial is marked “Widenham Maker to the Royal Navy, London No. 1668”. Richard Widenham of London flourished from 1825 until 1831. He received an award at Chronometertrials at Royal Greenwich Observatory in 1825. Up and down indicator and seconds dial. SIZE: Chronometer is 4” dia. Case is 6-3/4” h x 6” x 6”. CONDITION: Case has some minor age cracks, generally very good. 9-74490 MDD (3,000-4,000)
