UNUSUAL MAINE FEDERAL ACCOUNTANT’S DESK. First quarter 19th century. Unusual country birch and pine example, the rectangular dovetailed case fitted with a sloping lid, the three-quarter picture frame molding centering an inlaid diamond-shaped walnut panel, the lid opening to a storage compartment. The case surmounted by a dovetailed 2-door cabinet above a compartmented long drawer. The whole raised on square molded tapered legs. SIZE: 51-1/2″ overall h. x 29″ w. x 24″ d. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection. Acquired from Robert Hall, Dover-Foxcroft, Maine in the 1950’s by the present owner’s parents. CONDITION: Desk retains old cleaned surfaces, structurally very good. Right rear leg facing with old iron braces at case. 9-94961 (700-900)
