THEODORE KLEEHAAS (German, 1854-1929) TAVERN CONVERSATION—-OUTSTANDING STANFORD WHITE DESIGN FRAME. Large oil on canvas tavern scene shows three men in German/Swiss attire seated at a round table looking over a two seated woman at the end of the table. A small dog looks on against a stucco wall with alcove, pictures and shelf. Signed lower right “Th. Kleehaas, Munchen”. The stretcher has a Jos. Bayerie, Munchen stamp. SIZE: 30” x 40”. CONDITION: Bottom 1” has some chipping, masking varnish. Otherwise good. FRAME: Housed in what we believe is a Stanford White design frame and attributed to the Newcomb-Macklin shop, circa 1910. The frame has a five stop fluted reeded border, an inner flat area which has many different borders and an inner five reeded section. Appears to be unsigned and in very good condition with only slight nicks. OUTSIDE SIZE: 39-3/8” x 49”. Inner is 30” x 40”. CONDITION: As noted above. 9-29000 (8000-10000)
