WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 SPECIAL ORDER RIFLE. Cal. 45-90. Standard grade rifle with 26” round bbl, button magazine, British proofs, uncheckered wood with straight stock and a replacement Winchester hard rubber buttplate. Bbl has a 3-leaf platinum line carbine express sight that appears original to the rifle. Just behind the sight on the bbl, the number 14012 has been engraved number and the number “J254” stamped on the right side and there are numerous British proofs on the left side of the bbl and on the receiver. On the bottom of the bbl, in front of the forearm is the number 9228. Buttstock has a sling eye with the eye missing from the foreend cap. SN 66196. CONDITION: Good. Bbl retains 85-90% dull original blue. Receiver retains about 15% faded case colors with the balance turned silver. Stock is missing a couple of chips around the top tang and the wood retains most of an old refinish. Strong bright bore with fine pitting. 4-48645 JR546 (3,500-4,500)
