DELUXE TAKEDOWN WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. Fine deluxe rifle with 26” oct bbl, full magazine, takedown, highly figured about 3X center crotch cut, flame grain walnut stock with black insert, checkered pistol grip and smooth steel shotgun buttplate. Ivory bead Lyman front sight and long ladder rear sight. Tang has an early loop style Lyman tang sight. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter fully identifying this rifle and showing shipment on June 15th 1894. SN 89224. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine. Bbl retains 96-98% strong original blue. Magazine tube retains about 95% blue, thin just above the forearm with takedown marks near the end. Receiver retains 93-95% bright original blue with edge wear and slightly thinned on the bottom. There is a small spot of light rust on top of the receiver and a couple more on the right side of receiver. Lever retains 50-60% case colors, bright on the left side fading to silver elsewhere. Hammer retains 85-90% bright case colors. Wood is sound and retains most of its fine original piano varnish with light handling and use marks on the buttstock and some light wear on the forearm. Buttplate retains about 80% bright blue. Bright shiny bore. 4-48796 JR603 (12,500-17,500)
