OTTO MUHLEMFELD (American, 1871-1907) PORTRAIT OF THE TUGBOAT “PEERLESS”. Oil on canvas scene shows the black hulled red decked tug sailing right to left flying the U.S. flag and Peerless flag off the back mast. Single black stack with name emblazoned on front bow. Ships are seen off port and stern and point of land with lighthouse is seen on the right side. Signed “Muhlemfeld” and dated “1907”. Muhlemfeld is listed in the Dictionary of marine Artist’s as working in Baltimore, Maryland. PROVENANCE: Rankin Estate, Annapolis, Maryland. SIZE: 24” x 35”. CONDITION: Good, craquelure, relined, restores with inpainting. 9-29654 HP (8,000-12,000)
