FINE SCRIMSHAW BLACK AND RED POLYCHROME WHALE’S TOOTH. Engraved with a displayed eagle and liberty shield above a depiction of Neptune with trident and a mermaid below shooting stars inscribed “AT NEPTUNE’S COVE”. The reverse engraved with a sailing ship on pedestal inscribed “NEPTUNE CHANDLERS” above the date “1837”. Mounted on a circular plinth. Antique with later scrimshaw work. SIZE: 8-1/4” l. CONDITION: Overall good condition with nice color, stress cracks around tip, old splinter losses to base. 9-74653 SM (1,500-2,000)
