IMPORTANT RARE CARVED AND SCRIMSHAWED IVORY TIGER HUNTING HORN. India, Mid 19th Century. Constructed from an elephant tusk, the base carved and stained with zigzags and cross-hatching, terminating in a silvered collar. The mouthpiece a rectangular cut in the midpoint of the faceted tusk, the tusk inscribed with Hindu (?) characters purportedly a proverb pertaining to the hunt. Mounted on a custom stand. PROVENANCE: From the private collection of “Ick-Bal”, an Indian elephant hunter and guide for celebrities such as Ernest Hemingway, among others. SIZE: 30-1/2” l.
