HENRY HALF STOCK PERCUSSION RIFLE WITH TACK DECORATION. NSN. 44 Cal. 37-1/2” oct bbl. Marked “J. HENRY / & SON” on the lockplate. The ramrod, pewter forearm tip and brass bbl escutcheons are replacements. A sinew sewn rawhide strip covers a repair at the wrist. Six brass tack decorations were added along the buttplate on each side of the stock. The top one is missing on the left hand side, but the round iron nail remains. These Henry trade rifles are generally associated with Indian usage and this one certainly has the right characteristics. CONDITION: Heavy brown patina overall with crusty rust on the triggerguard, buttplate and rear of the bbl. There is a large sliver missing out of the right side of the forearm and cracks mentioned above. Mechanically fine. 4-59180 FS679 (1,500-2,500)
