FINE AND UNIQUE HEAVILY CARVED PRESENTATION WALKING STICK. The handle in the form of a crouching eagle perched above a standing figure, draped in a robe holding a cluster of grapes in left hand, wreath in right hand, proper right leg resting on a recumbent lion, left leg resting on helmet, above the standing figure of a military officer with telescope and sword above grapevines concealing a bird and clusters entwined around the shaft. This three dimensionally carved walking stick has a tableau on the reverse comprising various military accoutrements including helmets, backpacks, boots, horn, uniform, a pouch with displayed eagle, canteen, barrels, bales, and a saber, the vines pierce carved on all sides. One of the finest carved folk art walking sticks we have seen, given what appears to be the depiction of a Native American above a General or other high ranking officer in an 18th Century period uniform, it is therefore a possibility that it is of North American origin. SIZE: 35”h. CONDITION: Very find condition overall with original patina. 9-90790 LG (8,000-12,000)
