UNSIGNED (European, 19th C) SEWING BY CANDLELIGHT. Oil on canvas interior scene shows woman mending a piece of cloth next to floor candlestand with burning candle. Interior features include side chair, table draped with cloth and armchair. She wears a colorful red shirt with white scarf over head. Housed in a good gilt gesso decorated frame. Back of stretcher has label “Medal of Distinction Italian Exhibition of 1861 Costa & Conti Artists”. Also a partial label “Fred. Teurner Gilder”. SIZE: 18-1/4” x 14-1/2”. CONDITION: Craquelure with one small surface repair. Otherwise good. 9-97451 (500-800)
