AFRICAN PROOFED WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 44WCF (44-40). Standard grade carbine with 20” round bbl, full magazine, uncheckered wood, straight stock, carbine buttplate with trap. Left side of bbl and receiver are marked with English proofs. Left side of buttstock is stamped “B.S.A. CO. 62”. This apparently stands for the British South Africa Company of Rhodesia in 1890. Bbl has standard square base front sight with 1873 marked carbine ladder rear sight missing the slide and there is a staple and ring on left side of receiver. SN 363897. CONDITION: Very fine, as refinished. Retains about all of a fine polished blue. Wood is sound and retains most of a good refinish.
