TWO PART MAHOGANY NY SHERATON LINEN PRESS ATTR. TO DUNCAN PHYFE. The upper section with molded crest over two paneled doors, which have three pullout drawers and one fixed shelf. Doors have inset panels with banded mahogany outline and nice crotch mahogany veneer. Bottom section has two over three drawers. Original ring pulls. Inset panel sides on turned legs with short drum reeding ending in cupped brass bass feet. PROVENANCE: Family history states Duncan Phyfe made this linen press for his daughter and a letter dated 1950 from James Phyfe Whitlock to Helen W. York of Princeton, NJ states that this has never been out of their family since it was made. A letter dated 1968 from Helen York to a family member also mentions the chest.
