HUMMEL PERCUSSION HALF STOCK RIFLE. NSN. 46 Cal. 30-5/8” oct bbl. Marked “F. HUMMEL. LEBANON.PA.” on top of the bbl. The lockplate and patchbox appear to be of the European Jaeger style with a pack of dogs chasing a wild boar on the lockplate and a forest scene with a buck and two does on the patchbox. The top of the buttplate has a continuation of this scene with another buck. A German silver buck is inlaid on the cheekpiece and a German silver eagle is inlaid behind it. The sling swivels are missing, as is the worm on the rear end of the cleaning rod. Other German silver inlays include four stars and two flowers on the right side of the buttstock, the sideplate and the wedge escutcheons. A knot plug has been inserted near the bottom of the buttstock. CONDITION: Blue/brown patina on the bbl, gray patina mixed with surface rust and light pitting on the other iron parts. German silver inlays have a dark patina. Forearm is cracked full length on both sides, but the wood remains in place. Rear side elevator is missing. Mechanically fine. Wm.
