LIVERPOOL CREAMWARE MILK PITCHER, VISIT OF GENERAL LAFAYETTE. Circa 1824. This English transfer-decorated creamware pitcher “IN COMMEMORATION OF THE VISIT OF GENl. LAFAYETTE, TO THE U.S. OF AMERICA, IN THE YEAR 1824” above a cartouche of Lafayette in civilian dress; within the border is the title “FAYETTE THE NATION’S GUEST”. The opposing side with the inscription “FIRST IN WAR, FIRST IN PEACE, AND FIRST IN THE HEARTS OF HIS FELLOW CITIZENS” above an oval cartouche with a portrait of Washington; within the border is the title “WASHINGTON HIS COUNTRYS FATHER”. Beneath the spout is the Great Seal of the United States, titled “REPUBLICANS ARE NOT Always UNGRATEFUL” above the maker’s name Ric’d Hall & Son. SIZE: 5″ h.
