AUTOGRAPH DOCUMENT BY GEORGE WASHINGTON. The document having a handwritten section “After the expiration of eight days from the date hereof Mr. Rofs has permission to go into the city of New York and here turn again. Given at Brunswick this sixth day of July 1778. G. Washington (signature). Mr. Rofs.” Bottom of document is printed and written as follows: “By his Excellency George Washington, esq; General and Commander in Chief of the forces of the United States of America. These are to certify that the bearer hereof Benjamin Taylor, soldier in the second Connect. Regiment having faithfully served the United States from June 1777 to June 1783 and being enlisted for the war only is hereby discharged from the American Army.”.
