RARE DELUXE SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 LEVER ACTION RIFLE.

RARE DELUXE SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-75. Very special rifle with 28” oct bbl, full magazine, wind gauge Beachs front sight, rare platinum line 7-leaf express sight, 2X wood with checkered forearm and black insert pistol grip stock with crescent steel buttplate with trap containing a 4-pc iron wiping rod. Receiver is blued with single set trigger and the rifle is fitted with sling eyes. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum yellow sheet identifying this rifle as received in the warehouse on 8/18/97 and shipped 8/30/97 to WO #14483/ Butt is listed in the records as shotgun butt versus the crescent butt currently on the rifle. This is obviously an error in the records as there is no doubt, what so ever that the buttstock is correct and original to this rifle. Also accompanying are reproductions of pages 117 and 118 of The Winchester Model 1876 “Centennial” Rifle, which are charts indicating the relative rarity of the features found on this rifle. According to this book only 256 were checkered, 3 of which had 2X grade wood, 3 had a wind gauge front sight and 529 had 7-leaf express rear sights. Also accompanies is a close up photograph of the left side of the lower tang showing the assembly number and two X’s. SN 54965. CONDITION: About fine. Bbl retains about 92-93% dull original blue. Magazine tube about 95%. Foreend cap retains 92-93% bright blue. Sight is complete and original with a couple of the blades turning brown. Receiver and sideplates retain about 65-70% thin original blue, strong and bright in sheltered areas. Lever and hammer retain about 40% faded case colors. Buttplate retains about 95% original blue. Wood is sound and retains 92-93% original piano finish varnish with usual nicks and scratches from handling and use. Strong bright shiny bore with minor scattered light pitting. A fine rare 76 worthy of most anyone’s collection. 4-48641 JR545 (25,000-35,000)
