SCARCE MARTIALLY MARKED HENRY RIFLE. Cal. 44RF Henry. Usual configuration with 24” oct. bbl, integral magazine tube, brass receiver and straight grain walnut stock. Early round heel trapdoor buttplate. Inspector marks in the usual places with “CGC” and an “H” on the bbl, double “HH” on the right front edge of the receiver and a tiny “C” on the right side of the heel of the buttplate. There is an oval cartouche on the right side of the wrist. This is 1 of only approx. 1900 Henry’s purchased by the Union Army during the Civil War. Removal of the stock disclosed the serial number stamped on the left side of the lower tang, inside the top tang channel on the stock, inside the toe of the buttplate and on the two buttplate screws. Tang screws are not numbered but appear original to this rifle. Accompanied by a 2-page letter from George Madis certifying the authenticity of this rifle. SN 3066. CONDITION: Very fine. Retains traces of blue in the sheltered areas on the bbl with scattered very fine pitting being mostly a brown patina. Receiver is a medium mustard patina showing old edge wear. Stock is sound with a fine hand polished patina retaining generous amounts of an old refinish. Bore is strong with some shine mixed with pitting. Mechanics are fine. 4-48691 JR554 (35,000-55,000)
