UNSIGNED (Chinese School, 19th Century) AMERICAN SHIP “SPLENDID OF BALTIMORE”. Fine oil on canvas ship portrait showing a black and white hulled three-mast ship sailing left to right. Thirteen hole gun deck, shown in full sail flying the American flag off stern. The bow complete with figurehead and ship name. Also ship’s name pennant on front mast, back mast has white flag with “139”. Light pink cloud and blue sky. Housed in a fine ebonized and gilt carved wood and gesso replacement frame with gold and black name plaque. PROVENANCE: Rankin Estate, Annapolis, Maryland. SIZE: 20” x 25-1/2”. CONDITION: Very good.
