CHAFFIN PERCUSSION TARGET RIFLE. CAL. 56. 37-1/4” octagonal bbl, marked “R.CHAFFIN / 1842” on top of the bbl. Proof marks similar to those used at Springfield Armory are on the left quarter flat. A “US” is stamped on the left side of the stock near the frame. Chaffin has not been located, but the style appears to be New England. Single set trigger. CONDITION: Rust/brown patina overall with vise marks at the rear of the bbl. Stock has been broken through the wrist and professionally repaired including the addition of wood and refinish. Ramrod is a replacement. Center bbl sight is missing. 4-52674 X2 (3,000-10,000)
