UNSIGNED (American/British, 18th/19th Century) ANCESTRAL PORTRAITS OF A HUSBAND AND WIFE. Pair of outstanding oil on canvas 3/4 portraits consigned from a private Boston, MA area home. Both in period matching gilt wood frames with black liner. Woman stands wearing a fancy formal dress with gold front and rust, blue and white top. A large lace collar and sleeves and a lace edged gold bonnet. She wears a variety of jewelry including a wide red and white choker under which is a gold cross with crucifix. She wears two rings, one a gold pinky ring which matches the gentleman’s pinky ring. Arms are crossed at waist and she holds a decorative fan in one hand and a pink rose in the other. She is seen against a greenish to brown background. The man wears a blue coat with large light blue buttons, a red and white vest which he has placed one hand through at his waist. His other hand, which has matching pinky ring, holds a pair of white gloves. PROVENANCE: From a private Boston, MA are home. SIZE: CONDITION: Very good, relined. 9-73329 FP (5,000-10,000)
