EARLY 19TH CENTURY SAMPLER AND SILHOUETTE (ANCESTORS OF MAINE SENATOR MARGARET CHASE SMITH). This wonderful lot includes a vertical hand stitched colorful sampler with decorative vining flower border “Wrought by Rebecca H. Hixon Age 8”. An accompanying silhouette in original frame depicts Miss Hixon and is so inscribed above the image. A family note attached to the reverse of the sampler includes details of the family relationships. Rebecca Hixon was an ancestor of one of the most famous female legislators ever in the history of our country, Mrs. Margaret Chase Smith from Skowhegan, Maine. SIZE: Sampler is 18” h x 14” w including frame. Silhouette is 6-3/4” h x 5-1/2” w including frame. CONDITION: Sampler is very good retaining much of its original color.
