PATRICK MULLIN DOUBLE BARREL PERCUSSION MUZZLE LOADING SHOTGUN. Cal. 14 bore. Fine early percussion dbl with 27-1/2” damascus bbls marked on top rib “PATRICK MULLIN NEW YORK”, with what appears to be the original brass mounted ebony ramrod. Flat lockplates with flat sided hammers and scalloped fences with the makers’ name on each side. Large trigger guard with pineapple finial and long lower tang. Nose piece also has a pineapple finial. 1-pc stock is of nicely figured walnut with the bbls secured by a single wedge through forearm. Checkered straight grip with smooth steel buttplate having a long stepped tang. Bottom of the bbls have English proofs. Accompanied by a letter from Newbold L. Herrick of New York dated April 25, 1963 to Henry E. Coe III of Long Island New York transferring ownership of this shotgun with some minor history. A letter dated April 27, 1963 on Mr. Coes’ letterhead gives a little more history on the provenance of this shotgun. Mr. Coe states that Mr. Herrick had told him that his friends’ father had killed many ducks in China with this shotgun. NSN. CONDITION: Bbls retain 50-60% mottled brown pattern. Lockplates are mostly a silver brown with colors in the sheltered areas. Stock has a hairline crack in back of each lockplate, otherwise is sound and retains most of a fine oil finish with some mildew. Strong bright bores with scattered fine pitting.
