AMERICAN FOLK ART SAILOR WHIRLIGIG. The full-bodied dancing sailor depicted with broad brim hat and copper ribbon, “1844” inscribed in pencil on back of neck, V-neck shirt, outstretched arms with paddles, the bowed legs with white pants and black shoes. Painted with mustache and goatee and applied with a pointed nose. Mounted on a steel display rod jointed to a block pine plinth. SIZE: Figure: 20-1/2″ h. x 13″ w. Overall h: 24″ PROVENANCE: The Sailor’s Home, North Street, Boston, Massachusetts. Estate of Robert Oliver, Naval Architect.
