FINE NEW ENGLAND CARVED MAHOGANY SAILOR’S DRESSING BOX. Mid 19th Century. The rectangular hinged lid carved with an eight pointed star with round central ivory inlay flanked by carved hearts centered by four spandrels with ivory inlaid cores bordered by conforming foliate sprigs, opening to a compartmentalized interior. The lid mounted with a removable mirror within canted figured mahogany frame. The case exterior with demilune, diamond and cross-hatch carved details, the ends fitted with bail handles. SIZE: 5-1/4″ x 12-1/2″ x 10-3/4″. CONDITION: This fine example with original surfaces, hardware and mirror plate. Old patina. 9-95755 (1,500-1,800)
